Top 20 Credit Mistakes, Mistake #5- Closing Old Accounts.
After 18+years in credit, I’ve seen the same mistakes over and over.
Things people do thinking they’re helping their score — that actually make it worse.
Stuff like closing old cards, paying collections the wrong way, disputing online and trustingthe wrong advice, just to name a few.
So, I’m doing a "Top 20 Credit Mistakes" series, and we are on number 5!
Credit mistake #5 that most people break without realizing it,
Closing old cards to "clean up your credit."
People do this because they think fewer accounts look better.
The problem is when you close accounts, you reduce your available credit, andthat raises utilization — which is one of the fastest ways to drop a score.
And Nobody benefits, It’s just a common mistake.
That’s rule #5 in my Credit Playbook, I hope this helps!
Comment PLAYBOOK and I’ll send you my list of all 20.
